Annie
 |
| Annie was born in the Johannesburg Hospital early in the summer of 2003. She was born with numerous congenital abnormalities and required supplemental oxygen. Her mother was unable to care for her when she was discharged at 3 months old, as she lived in an informal settlement without electricity supply. The hospital requested that we assist in looking after her.
Three weeks after joining us at TLC Annie passed away as a result of complications related to her gastrostomy operation.

Bridgette
 |
| Bridgette was born very prematurely to her very ill HIV-positive mommy, in the autumn of 2002. Even though Bridgette was small and premature, she was discharged from the hospital the day after she was born, since the doctors were convinced she was HIV-positive and nothing could be done for her.
After a long battle at TLC she eventually passed away. Bridgette was three months old.

Chan

| Chan was born six weeks prematurely to his HIV-positive mommy, in the spring of 2002. He had contracted the HI-virus from his mommy and was oxygen dependant as a result of chronic lung disease. After spending his first four months in hospital, the doctors decided that their was nothing more they could do for him, and that he should go home. Unfortunately the area where his mommy lived was not an area serviced by the oxygen supply companies.
Since TLC was relatively near to where his mother lived they requested we look after Chan. Chan was with us for his final thirteen days, during which time his mommy was able to spend a lot of time with him. |
Danica
 |
| Danica was born very prematurely to her very ill HIV-positive mommy, late in the winter of 2004. Since her older sister had already been adopted by Thea, she requested that her youngest daughter also come to TLC.
Sadly, Danica had contracted the HI-virus from her mommy and she passed away a short three weeks after joining us at TLC. |
Derek
 |
| Derek was born in the summer of 2004. When he was three weeks old he was abandoned in an open field. He was found by a passerby who took the seriously ill infant to the local hospital. After six weeks he was ready to be discharged and the hospital requested that we care for him.
Derek's health remained unstable and it was discovered that he was infected with the HI-Virus. A month after coming to TLC Derek sadly passed away. |
Ettiene

| Ettiene's ,mommy was HIV positive and very ill. Ettiene was born prematurely in the autumn of 2002, and six days after he was born his mommy passed away. Ettiene was also HIV positive and suffered from chronic lung disease.
Four months after he was born, Ettiene was still oxygen dependant and failing to thrive due to the HIV infection he contracted from his mother. After four months at TLC, despite all our efforts Ettiene finally passed away. He was eight months old. |
Ffloyd

| Ffloyd and his twin sister Barbara-Anne were born prematurely in the Johannesburg Hospital to an HIV-positive mommy, in the summer of 2005. When they were three weeks old and ready to be discharged the twins mommy could not be found and they joined us at TLC.
Ffloyd did not thrive, and when he was six weeks old he contracted a chest infection that his compromised immune system was unable to fight. He passed away in hospital three weeks after joining us, after a heroic, but futile, battle. In the meantime we had managed to trace the family, and Barbara-Anne was returned to her family a month later. |
Gabrielle

| Gabrielle was born in the autumn of 2004. Her mother was in the act of abandoning Gabrielle a few hours after she was born when she was intercepted by a nurse. The baby was admitted to the local hospital who contacted us and requested that we care for her.
Gabrielle was a sickly baby and we later discovered that she was infected with the HI-virus. She passed away at the age of ten weeks. |

Helen-Ashleigh

| Helen-Ashleigh was born prematurely in the Johannesburg Hospital in the middle of the summer of 2002. She was born before her lungs had fully developed and suffered from chronic lung disease. When she was ready to be discharged from the hospital her mother could not be traced. The hospital social workers requested that she come to TLC.
In the early autumn, after 2 months at TLC she was re-admitted to the hospital where she later passed away due to complications related to her under-developed lungs. She was 3 months old. |
Kibibi

| Kibibi was born prematurely in the summer of 2003, she was HIV positive. When she was two months old she was sent to join us at TLC since her mother could not be found and although she was still not very well, she no longer needed hospital care.
After only a few weeks at TLC, despite all our love and care, her condition had continued to deteriorate. She was readmitted to hospital where she later passed away. Kibibi was three months old. |
Lucindiso

| Lucindiso was born in the summer of 2003. When he was a year old his mommy passed away. As Lucindiso was also very ill his granny requested that we look after him and try to stabilise his health while she attended to the funeral arrangements for her daughter.
Lucindiso came to TLC, where he was treated for tuberculosis and kwashiokor. He was tested for HIV, and the test returned a positive result. Further tests were done to determine the extent of the infection, before the results of this test came in, Lucindiso passed away. We subsequently discovered that the infection was extensive and the poor little fellow had insufficient reserves to fight off any opportunistic infections. Lucindiso had been at TLC for four months when he passed away. |
Malachi

| Malachi was born in the winter of 2003. He was born 12 weeks prematurely in a hospital to the south of Johannesburg. It rapidly became evident that he was HIV infected and that the virus was active in his little body.
When Malachi was 10 weeks old the hospital decided he had gained enough weight to be discharged, although he was still quite ill, because he was HIV positive they felt there was nothing they could do for him and requested that we care for him. At 18h30 in the evening, exactly two months after Malachi came to us he sadly passed away. |
Mbali
 |
| Mbali was born in the autumn of 2004. When she was six weeks old her mother brought her back to the hospital where she had been born. She was unable to feed her little girl, as she was homeless and unemployed. She asked the social worker to help her little girl find a forever family and that is how Mbali came to be at TLC.
Sadly, Mbali was infected with the HI-virus. Five weeks after coming to TLC she succumbed to an infection which she was unable to fight off as a result of her compromised immune system. |
Monica
 |
| Monica was born in autumn 2007 and admitted to a children's home in Johannesburg. She had under-developed lungs and was on supplemental oxygen. After 4 months she was transferred to TLC as the home she was in were unable to manage the oxygen supply. After admission we discovered she had viral encephalitis, which we were told was probably going to be terminal.
She passed away in hospital a few weeks later. She was 5 months old. |
Qiana

| Mbali was born in the summer of 2004. She was born prematurely in the Natalspruit hospital east of Johannesburg. Her mother felt that she would be unable to care for her as she already had two older children. She requested that a forever family be found for her youngest daughter, and Qiana came to TLC when she was ready tobe discharged, fourteen weeks after she was born.
Subsequently it was discovered that Qiana was HIV positive. Six weeks later Qiana passed away peacefully in hospital as a result of an HIV related infection. |
Sihle

| Sihle was born in the winter of 2006. He was born prematurely, and was a very ill little boy. He had under-developed lungs and so was dependant on supplemental oxygen, he had a cleft palate and a heart defect. Having done all they could for him the hospital wished to discharge him to his mother's care, however she was not equipped to deal with her little boy's special needs. The hospital requested that we help to look after him. Sihle was eleven weeks old when he came to TLC.
Sihle struggled valiantly for the six weeks he spent with us. But one day in the springtime of 2006 he gave up the fight, in favour of his peaceful haven with our Lord. |

Thabiso

| Thabiso was born very prematurely in the summer of 2004. He was born at 24 weeks gestation (16 weeks early), he weighed slightly over 1 kilogram. At four months old, the hospital felt that he should be discharged. However his mother felt that she would not be able to look after him, so they requested our assistance. Thabiso weighed 1.7 kilograms by this time and was still dependant on supplemental oxygen.
Thabiso continued to struggle, but three and a half months after coming to TLC, he passed away in hospital following a lengthy illness. |
Thabo-Henry

| Henry lived with his mother in a local squatter camp, since his birth in 2001. When he was fourteen months old his mommy bought him to TLC as she felt unable to care for him. At that time Thabo-Henry who was HIV positive was also suffering from pneumonia and was severely malnourished.
Despite all the love, and care, and everything we tried, Thabo-Henry passed away just less than two months after coming to TLC.

Thalia

| Thalia was born prematurely in the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in the middle of the winter of 2007. She was born before her lungs had fully developed and suffered from chronic lung disease. When she was ready to be discharged from the hospital her mother could not be traced. The hospital social workers requested that she come to TLC.
In the middle of the summer, after 2 months at TLC she contracted an aggressive adenovirus. After a short fight her lungs failed and she passed away. She was 5 months old. |
Unabella

| Unabella was born prematurely in the Johannesburg Hospital in the spring of 2005. Unabella was a tiny little girl who weighed 1.6 kilograms at birth. Unabella's mommy was an alcoholic and was not able to care for her. Unabella was four days old when she came to TLC.
Sadly Unabella was also infected with the HI-Virus. When she was 2 months old she developed an infection and was unable to fight it off. She was two and a half months old when she passed away in hospital. |
Virginia

| Virginia was born in the spring of 2001, in a mining town about 300 km west of Johannesburg. Her mommy, who was HIV-positive died in childbirth. Virginia, who was also HIV-positive, spent ten months in the hospital as she had nowhere else to go. By ten months of age she was severely wasted and had lost the will to live.
Thea saw her there when she went to fetch another baby who needed care, and convinced the hospital to allow her to come to TLC so that we could love her and care for her in her last days. Virginia passed away one winter evening two weeks after she came to TLC. She was 10 months old. |
