Virginia
Virginia was born in the spring of 2001, in a mining town about 300 km west of Johannesburg. Her mommy, who was HIV-positive died in childbirth. Virginia, who was also HIV-positive, spent ten months in the hospital as she had nowhere else to go. By ten months of age she was severely wasted and had lost the will to live.
Thea saw her there when she went to fetch another baby who needed care, and convinced the hospital to allow her to come to TLC so that we could love her and care for her in her last days.
Virginia passed away one winter evening two weeks after she came to TLC... She was 10 months old.
