In South Africa, countless children face abandonment when vulnerable families collapse under the weight of poverty, trauma, and lack of support—often leading to institutional care that cannot provide the love of a stable family.

Without intervention, this cycle perpetuates generational trauma, as children grow up without secure attachments and later struggle to maintain their own families, while mothers feel they have no choice but to give up their children.

TLC’s unique “Reviving the Village” approach addresses the root causes of family breakdown through trauma-informed care, mother empowerment, and community strengthening—creating sustainable support systems that keep families together and help children thrive in loving homes rather than institutions.

VILLAGE PROGRAMS

Through the support of our sponsors we are able to strengthen vulnerable families in the following ways

Quality Childcare

Families can focus on securing and maintaining jobs with the peace of mind that their child is in good hands.

Social & Emotional Learning

Workshops are offered to families in our community which educate and provide individuals with tools around parenting and dealing with personal trauma.

Food Security

Families are afforded dignified, value-exchange opportunities to earn basic food and household items in our “Share Shop”.

Capacity Building

As families are able to focus on more than just their daily survival, so does their capacity to expand their knowledge of basic life and vocational skills offered within our community and beyond.
